Lithuania, situated on the Baltic Sea, shares borders with Russia, Poland, Belarus, and Latvia. This country boasts a rich history dating back to the 13th century and, in the 15th century, was the largest state in Europe by territory. Today, Lithuania is a member of both the EU and NATO, with a semi-presidential democracy and a unicameral parliament (the Seimas). Vilnius, the capital, delights visitors with its UNESCO-listed Old Town. The climate is moderately continental, bringing chilly winters and warm summers; spring and summer are the best seasons to explore the country.
