Catánia
Catania, a city in Sicily, lies at the foot of Mount Etna on the Gulf of Catania. It is home to around 299 thousand people. It is an important port and transport hub with the international Fontanarossa airport. The city is famous for its fertile volcanic soils, which favour the cultivation of grapevines. In Catania, Piazza Duomo with its baroque architecture is well worth seeing. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot summers (up to 35°C) and mild winters, which makes spring and autumn the ideal times to visit.
