Pisa, in Tuscany on the Arno river, is a city with a rich history and remarkable architecture. It is famous for the Leaning Tower on the Campo dei Miracoli, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Founded by the Etruscans, the city flourished as a powerful republic in the Middle Ages. Pisa is home to one of the oldest universities in the world, founded in 1343. Average temperatures reach 30°C in summer and 10°C in winter. Pisa is best visited in spring or autumn, when the weather is milder and better suited to sightseeing.
